Stretch your food dollar

Body
KARAN’S KORNER With the rising cost of food and spending more at the store, you may be asking how can I stretch my food dollar? Groceries sure are adding up these days. All those price hikes can leave shoppers with a “basket halfempty” feeling, and for good reason as food-at-home prices (groceries) have increased significantly.

Boiled, fried, or bang bang

Body

Lately it seems everywhere I turn, the go-to recipe for shrimp is ‘Bang Bang’ shrimp.

It’s nothing really fancy, just a sauce mixture or mayonnaise, sweet Thai chili sauce, and Sriracha that coats the shrimp.

There are also many ideas involving fried shrimp, which is always a favorite in most food circles or shrimp scampi that involves lots of butter, garlic, and white wine.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor, I read the obituaries daily in a large out-oftown newspaper. They’re sad but interesting.

Stove debate is a real gas

Body
Ilove my gas stove — almost as much as I love my Weber gas grill. So I became curious this past week when I heard that a commissioner in one of our ever-expanding federalgovernment agencies discussed a possible ban on natural gas stoves.

Turns out Trump was right on border security

Body
Since the beginning of the Biden administration, border communities have been ground zero for the worst immigration crisis in U.S. history. Each day across our entire southern border, thousands of migrants willfully break our laws with no end in sight. Hundreds of thousands more have slipped into our country undetected. Nearly 100 terrorism suspects have been stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in 2022. Cartels are more enriched and emboldened than ever, and Americans have never been more vulnerable to deadly fentanyl and criminal actors flowing into our country.

Why God commands us to love and not like

David Bebbington is a British historian perhaps best known for his study of British evangelicalism. Although a loose, decentralized Christian movement, in the 1980s Bebbington developed a framework for defining evangelicalism around four points—now referred to as the Bebbington quadrilateral. Simply put, Bebbington defined evangelicals by what they say they believe.

Turfgrass can’t compete with wildflowers

Body
Dear Neil: I’m concerned about my backyard. The photo with the tennis ball is St. Augustine “carpetgrass”, while the other photo is a mix of St. Augustine and bermuda. Runners of much of the lawn pull up easily. I’m worried that the lawn is dead. I have bluebonnets and other wildflowers in this area, so I’m concerned about bringing sod and topsoil in until we get spring rains.
