A major topic of discussion was a proposed lease agreement for the Pecos County Spaceport Property, located at Greasewood Ranch south of Fort Stockton.

Last month, Congressman Tony Gonzales held a roundtable with law enforcement from the West Texas region and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on oilfield theft within the Permian Basin. Congressman Gonzales has reintroduced the Protect the Permian Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation, first introduced in September of last year, will increase criminal penalties for stealing, transporting, or selling stolen oil and oilfield-related equipment. It also formally establishes and supports an FBI-led task force to combat oilfield theft and expands federal resources to law enforcement agencies that assist with combating oilfield crime.

GARDENER’S MAILBAG Dear Neil, I planted a 6-foot chaste tree in the spring in my garden area. The tree had some blooms on it at the time.

On “Necessity of Prayer” by E. M. Bounds, ANEKO Press E. M. Bounds was a late 19th Century early 20th Century pastor who died in 1913. His friends published his manuscript after his death. This book is an updated version of the original manuscript. No publication date was given for this volume. The introduction tells the reader that Pastor Bounds spent his entire ministry in deep study and devotion to prayer.

As the Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) enters its 18th year, it is celebrating a transformational milestone. For the first time, the Texas Legislature has provided significant ongoing funding to support BRI’s mission of conserving the natural resources of the Chihuahuan Desert Borderlands through research, education and outreach.
