I remember the day I decided to take flying lessons. That decision finally led me to enroll in a flight school. We were given lessons and didn’t move on until we passed that lesson. Then came the day we went out to the airplanes. We were to inspect everything on the airplane to see if it was ready to fly. If you didn’t listen or do exactly as they say you were washed out. They wanted good, safe pilots. That flight school reminds me of parents trying to raise children in our world today. They work hard trying to teach their children to do right from day one, (Proverbs 22:6, Ephesians 6:1&4). Sadly, many children fail when they quit listening to what they are being taught or out on their own and totally disregard everything they were taught. As with airplanes, some crash and burn never fly again, others crash and can’t be repaired, others crash but can be repaired, and some listen to what they were taught and fly beautifully. The Bible is the only guidebook, and it is to be followed to the letter, (2 Timothy 3:16). There are so many distractions in our culture and the world, not to mention our own flesh, (James 1:14&15, 1 John 2:16). But there is hope all is not lost. God loves us and wants us to be saved, (John 3:16, Romans 5:8, Luke 10:10, John 10:10). Keep praying and loving that lost one.

Dear Neil, I have a bed of castiron plants beneath a large live oak. We just bought our house two years ago. The bed looked fine last year, but now, after the cold, it looks very bad. Will the plants come back? Is the browning strictly because of the cold?

The postseason road came to a close for the Fort Stockton Prowlers on Monday, Feb. 16, as they fell 58-41 to the Perryton Rangerettes in the Bi-District Championship of the 2026 UIL Texas Girls Basketball State Championships (Conference 4A Division II) at Lubbock Cooper High School.

By press time for this edition of the Pioneer, those of us observing Ash Wednesday as the initiation of the Lenten Season will have found their way to the several stations offering Ash Wednesday Services to the community.

The Midland College Williams Regional Technical Training Center (WRTTC) hosted the Adult Nurse Aide Pinning Ceremony at the Fort Stockton Convention Center. Students recognized at the ceremony completed the state-approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program. Recognizing students who completed the Nurse Aide program are now eligible to pursue state testing to become Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs).
