Ureste, Rojas named to 4A-2 all-state team
Two members of last year’s Fort Stockton football team were selected to the Padilla Poll 4A Division II All-State Teams according to a news release that was revealed on Jan. 24.
Center Cruz Rojas was named to the second-team offensive line while Daren Ureste was selected as a second-team linebacker.
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound Rojas began the season at tackle and was then shifted to the center spot, anchoring the Panthers offensive line. Rojas proved to not only be the biggest center out of all the teams Fort Stockton lined up against last season, but a foundation for a run game that accumulated 3,347 yards in 12 games (278 ypg).
Ureste earned Defensive MVP honors in 4A-2 District 1 for his productivity in the middle of the Panthers defense.
The inside backer tallied a team-best 85 tackles and 16 tackles for loss during the season – 15 higher than the next in line. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound defender, who was a three-year starter for the Panthers at linebacker, ended his career with an impressive 281 tackles and 36.5 tackles for loss.
The Padilla Poll began in 1992 and is a fully digital high school football polling and news source. After each season the media outlet releases all-state football teams for each classification.
