Tennis: Pacheco, Gomez compete with top competition
Prowlers sophomore girls doubles duo Athena Gomez and Jaslyn Pacheco showed that no matter the level of competition, they are willing to step up to the challenge.
Fort Stockton took to the court against a number of elite programs in West Texas on Feb. 11 for the inaugural All Saints Invitational.
In a compass style draw format, at least 3 matches were guaranteed for the athletes, placing everyone from 1st-16th place.
Pacheo and Gomez led the Prowlers with a fifth-place finish in their respective division and the duo were the only Fort Stockton athletes to place in the top eight.
Fort Stockton head coach Victor Garcia said his team made tremendous strides against the stout competition at Friday’s meet.
“With tough teams in the tournament such as Snyder, Hobbs, Big Spring, and Seminole, your panthers struggled match after match but showed significant improvement from their last tournament and played with heart for every point,” he said.
