Fort Stockton’s Alex Williams is tied for seventh place after day one of the Class 4A boys state golf tournament at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, Texas in a field of 72 golfers.

The senior carded a 2-over 73 on Monday and was in the lead pack of golfers to take to the course.

Williams is tied with Argyle’s Ethan Payne, Melissa’s Xavier Bighaus, and Paris’ Mason Napier for seventh place.

Wimberly freshman Jaxson Donaldson leads the 4A race after day one by five strokes with a round of 65 (6-under) – a mark that was one stroke away from tying the Class 4A record for lowest first round total.

Class 4A Region I overall champion, Gaven Lane of Argyle, who placed ahead of Williams at the regional meet two weeks ago, is in second place with a 1-under 70.

Jack Burke of Orange Little Cypress-Mauriceville and Cason Johnson of Seminole are tied for third with rounds of 71 (par).

Mabank’s Josh German and Paris’ Tyler Harvey are tied for fifth after carding 72’s.

Argyle is leading the team race by 16 strokes as all four of their scoring golfers are in the top 20.
