Prowlers softball force game 3, but fall to Pampa in area playoffs
After a lopsided game one loss to Pampa in their area playoff opener on May 6, the Prowlers softball team responded with a dominant win of their own to keep their season alive on May 7.
Fort Stockton downed the Harvesters 15-3 in game two of the series after a 10-1 game loss in game 1.
Both teams had at least 13 hits in their wins, but game three proved to be much more of defensive battle.
Pampa took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never relinquished it in their 5-2 victory over the Prowlers to close out the series.
Fort Stockton rose the bar back to where it had long been for their program this season - qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since 2019 and the seventh time in the last nine seasons.
And it has the potential to maintain there for many years to come.
The Prowlers finished the season with a 17-14 record.
Game 1 – Pampa 10 Fort Stockton 1
The Harvesters came ready to play from the get-go and were consistent at the plate in their area playoff opener on Friday. Pampa scored two runs in the first frame, one in the second, and three in the third to take a 6-0 lead out of the gates.
Fort Stockton scored their lone run in the top of the sixth and Pampa finished the contest with three runs scored in the bottom of the inning.
Pampa outhit Fort Stockton 13-5 and the Harvesters pitcher Kynleigh struck out seven Fort Stockton batters compared to zero strikeouts by the Prowlers’ trio of pitchers.
Game 2 – Fort Stockton 15 Pampa 3
Fort Stockton scored 15 runs in their playoff debut against Riverside in the bi-district round eight days prior to Saturday’s contest and the Prowlers repeated that showing with another offensive showcase.
Fort Stockton scored five runs in the third and 10 runs in the fifth to end the game via mercy rule.
Alyana Dominguez and Aryanna Gonzalez led the Prowlers at the plate with three hits apiece. Dominguez tiedher season-high mark in the RBI department with six – a total the senior recorded against Riverside.
Dmaya Vaughn and Arissa Gonzalez had two hits apiece.
Aryanna Gonzalez picked up the win on the mound in a complete game performance. Aryanna struck out one batter, walked two, and allowed five hits in the five-inning contest.
Game 3 – Pampa 5 Fort Stockton 2
Pampa started the first inning with a hit-walk-hit combination, and their hot start continued with a Fort Stockton error and a batter being hit by a pitch to take a 2-0 lead. The Prowlers and pitcher, Dominguez, who pitched a complete game to end her career, escaped the inning with the bases loaded.
Fort Stockton was unable to respond initially on offense as the Prowlers recorded one hit and one walk in the first two innings.
The Prowlers plated a run in the third to make it a 2-1 game via a leadoff single by Yadira Hernandez and a twoout RBI double by Mia Garcia.
Pampa added one run in the fourth and Fort Stockton plated a run in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game heading into the sixth inning.
The Harvesters scored two runs in the seventh inning by way of a two-run home run to close the game.
