Fort Stockton’s postseason debut couldn’t have gone much better for the Prowlers on Friday in Van Horn against District 1-4A co-district champion Riverside.

Senior Alyana Dominguez had her most productive game of the season at the plate for Fort Stockton, hitting two home runs and tallying six RBIs to lead her team to a 15-3 run-rule victory in five innings.

Fort Stockton, who lost to Riverside earlier in the season at their home tournament, outhit the Rangers 21-6 and committed no errors during Friday’s contest.

Prowlers’ starting pitcher Adree Bueno held Riverside’s high-powered offense at bay with a mistake free defense behind her. Bueno struck out four batters, walked two, and allowed five hits in four innings. Freshman Kriselda Porras closed the final inning, striking out one batter and allowing one hit in a scoreless fifth frame.

Ivanna Ortiz scratched out a team-best four hits in a perfect 4-of-4 day at the plate. Aryanna Gonzalez, Bueno, and Dominguez each tallied three hits apiece.

Dmaya Vaughn, Mia Garcia, and Arissa Gonzalez recorded two hits. Porras and Aniah Montoya each had one hit.

Fort Stockton trailed 1-0 after the first inning before taking the lead for good in the bottom of the first inning with two runs. The Prowlers expanded their lead to 5-1 by the end of the third frame and Riverside responded by plating a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 5-3 game.

Fort Stockton ended the contest by scoring four runs in the fourth inning and six in the fifth.

The Prowlers will look to win their first playoff series since 2019 when they take the field at noon in Van Horn for game 2 of the series on April 30.
