Fort Stockton is showing signs that they are performing at their best at a time when it matters the most.

The Prowlers softball team will enter their bi-district playoff series with Riverside starting on Friday, April 29 on a three-game win streak after defeating Alpine in an away playoff warmup game on April 25.

Fort Stockton’s Arissa Gonzalez and Dmaya Vaughn led the Prowlers high powered offense at the plate with three hits apiece – tying their career high marks – and accumulated a combined five RBIs in their team’s 13-9 win.

Nearly all of the Prowlers lineup got in on Fort Stockton’s scoring frenzy as nine of the team’s 10 batters in the contest tallied at least one hit. The Prowlers ended the game with 17 hits and 10 RBIs.

Alyana Dominguez, Kriselda Porras, Ivanna Ortiz, and Aryanna Gonzalez were the Prowlers that finished the contest with two hits apiece. Adree Bueno, Anaih Montoya, and Yadira Hernandez each had one hit.

Fort Stockton garnered a 3-2 lead in the top of the first inning and never relinquished their advantage for entirety of the contest.

To start the game, Ortiz and Vaughn hit back-to-back singles at the top of the order and Arissa Gonzalez followed with an RBI double in the three spot of the lineup. Bueno ensued with a one-out double in the frame.

Alpine closed their deficit to 3-2 by the end of the first inning and the Prowlers responded with four runs to take a 7-2 lead in the second inning. Hernandez got the hitting started in the frame with a one-out double and the Gonzalez’s – Aryanna and Arissa – tallied back-to-back doubles later in the inning.

Aryanna brought home Arissa and Dominguez followed with an RBI single to end an action-packed frame for the Prowlers.

Alpine added a run in the bottom of the second inning and outscored Fort Stockton 3-1 in the third frame to make it an 8-6 contest.

Fort Stockton scored one run in the fourth inning and Alpine plated one run in the fifth inning. The Prowlers scored one in the sixth and Alpine closed the gap to one run (9-8) via a two-run sixth inning.

Darrian Roberson’s squad closed the door on Alpine’s late rally with a three-run seventh inning that featured a leadoff triple by Anaih Montoya.

Porras brought home Montoya in the next at bat with a single. Ortiz and Arissa Gonzalez closed the frame with singles.

Alpine was caught stealing twice and the Prowlers’ closing pitcher, Porras, forced a flyout in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Bueno got the start on the mound and struck out three batters, walked three, allowed five hits and one earned run in three innings. Dominguez provided middle relief with two strikeouts, no walks, and two allowed hits in two innings of work.

Fort Stockton concluded the regular season with a 14-12 record. The Prowlers will head to Van Horn High School April 29-30 to face Riverside in a best-of-two series. Fort Stockton will play at 7 p.m. on April 29 and at noon on April 30. If the teams split the first two games, they will play a third immediately following Saturday’s contest.
