Fort Stockton’s bats provided a problematic dose of power, placement, and consistency for the Kermit pitching and defense during the Prowlers homestand on Feb. 22.

Fort Stockton (6-1) tallied 21 hits with ten different batters, including a team-best four hits by freshman Mia Garcia in Fort Stockton’s 17-4 win.

Fort Stockton trailed 3-0 after the top of the first inning and after scoring one run in the bottom of the first frame, the Prowlers tacked on eight runs in the bottom of the second to take a 9-3 lead.

Aislynn Robledo ignited the Prowlers offense in the second inning with a leadoff home run.

Alex Cook-Pineda, Garcia, Alyana Dominguez, and Aryanna Gonzalez followed with four consecutive hits after Robledo’s home run.

The dinger and four hits gave Fort Stockton a 5-3 advantage and the Prowlers never looked back the rest of the way.

Starting pitcher Alex Cook-Pineda struck out four batters to start the game and walked six before freshman Kriselda Porras took over duties on the mound and pitched the final three innings.

Porras was nearly flawless with eight strikeouts, one walk, and two hits given up.

Prowler batters that recorded at least one hit were Adree Bueno, Yadira Hernandez, Tori Wilkins, and Leilani Lopez.

Fort Stockton will take their 6-1 record into next Tuesday’s away game at Presidio. The Prowlers next home game is scheduled for March 15.

Prowlers garner 4-1 record at Comanche Classic, place fifth

Fort Stockton’s softball team continued their hot start to the season at the Comanche Classic last week on their home fields.

The Prowlers finished the 13-team event in fifth place with a 4-1 record.

“We played very well all weekend. We gained a lot of confidence,” Fort Stockton coach Darrian Roberson said.

Fort Stockton began the tournament on Feb. 17 with a 2-0 mark via wins against McCamey and Sonora.

Wilkins, who claimed a powerlifting title just two days later, hit her career first home run against Sonora in a run-rule victory.

The Prowlers advanced to the championship bracket on Saturday featuring the top eight teams from pool play and fell to El Paso Riverside to start the day.

Fort Stockton followed with a 6-3 victory against district rival Pecos and a win over McCamey in the consolation championship (fifth-place game).

Dominguez and Adree Bueno hit a home run with runners on base in the Prowlers victory against Pecos.
