Prowlers begin district play with 0-2 mark
The 19th ranked Seminole Maidens showed why they’re one of the elite programs in West Texas on Jan. 11 against Fort Stockton.
Seminole scored a season-high 111 points in their district-opening win against Pecos on Jan. 7 and the Maidens nearly reached the century mark again in their matchup with the Prowlers.
Senior guard Xoe Rosalez and sophomore London Shain outscored Fort Stockton by six points as a duo, netting a combined 51 points in Seminole’s 96-45 win.
Rosalez scored a game-high 26 points and Shain added 25.
Seminole scored at will from beyond the arch, netting 10 3-pointers from four different players. The Maidens were equally as efficient at the free throw line (16-of-20).
Fort Stockton shot 3-of-5 at the charity stripe and made five 3-pointers.
Alyana Dominguez scored in double digits on Tuesday for her 14th time in 20 outings. The senior scored 10 points while Eliana Mata led the Prowlers with 11 points. Mia Garcia and Amaya Urias scored eight points apiece. Melissa Villarreal finished with five points.
The Prowlers will head to Greenwood on Friday, Jan. 14 and host Andrews on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Fort Stockton’s district record is 0-2 going into Friday’s contest against Greenwood and 9-14 overall.
Fort Stockton falls in district opener
The Fort Stockton girls basketball team came up short in a 56-36 defeat at Monahans on Jan. 7 in their first district contest of the season.
Dominguez finished with a team-high 14 points and six steals.
Sophie Hernandez brought down a team-best 12 rebounds to go along with her three points.
Prowlers JV squeak out two-point victory against Loboes
The Prowlers junior varsity won their first district game of the season against Monahans on Jan. 7.
Fort Stockton secured a 31-29 victory against the Lady Loboes behind a 13-point performance by Yvette Lopez and a gritty defensive showcase that was paired with dominance on the boards.
Lopez led the Prowlers with 13 points and two blocks. Dmya Vaughn tallied five points and four rebounds.
Mayrene Bernal brought down a team-best five boards. Estrella Aguilar scored five points and Aubrey Jones added four.
“It’s a great day every day to be a Prowler, but it’s even better when you open up district with a win. I’m proud of these girls and their efforts. They show up each day demanding excellence of themselves, their teammates and most importantly their coaches,” coach Sera Ramirez said.
