Fall camp is over and the 2021 season is just a few days out for the Fort Stockton football team.

The Panthers put in their final preparations against another opponent on Aug. 20 with scrimmages against Class 5A Winn and Class 6A Del Rio in Eagle Pass.

Fort Stockton tied Winn and defeated Del Rio 2-1 in the controlled part of the scrimmage to start the competitive exhibitions.

“The scrimmage was a good one for the Panthers,” Fort Stockton head coach Mike Peters said.

The Panthers faced each opponent in a live quarter with a running clock to conclude the day. The session ended with many positive takeaways for Peters’ squad.

A 99-yard interception returned for a touchdown by senior Dominic Aguilar set the tone in Fort Stockton’s 13-0 live-quarter victory against the Mavericks. Sophomore running back Corbin Luna found the endzone on a 6-yard run, capping a 65-yard drive.

“We were only allowed one offensive drive in the quarter but made quick work of the opportunity,” Peters said.

The live quarter against Del Rio proved to a back-and-forth battle. Penalties against the Panthers on their first two offensive possessions and a late score by the Rams hindered an otherwise competitive performance for Fort Stockton.

Del Rio won the quarter 6-0 to end play on Friday.

The Panthers kickoff the regular season on Friday, Aug. 27 at El Paso Bowie. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
