Powerlifters begin season in Monahans
A young Fort Stockton powerlifting began their season on a high note in Monahans, competing against the Loboes and Marfa.
Head coach Jeremy Boatright said his group put forth a tremendous effort and see plenty of room for growth this season.
“The young Panthers competed their hearts out. All the lifters for the Panthers were first timers. They all accepted the challenge to learn and adapt to the different types of rulings. With their minds focused they were all able to overcome and break through with some amazing results,” he said. There is still a lot of room for growth as these young Panthers continue to come and grind in the weight room during the early mornings. The future looks bright here in Fort Stockton.”
Freshman Leeland Ibarra and senior JC Napay were standout lifters at the competition according to Boatright.
Ibarra lifted a total of 760 pounds while Napay totaled 875 pounds.
The latter completed a 345-pound squad, 185-pound bench, and 345-pound deadlift.
Ibarra maxed out at a 280-pound squat, 205-pound bench, and 275-pound deadlift.
Fort Stockton will head to Monahans once again for the Sandhill Invite on Saturday, Jan. 15 starting at 8:45 a.m. Spectators are welcome at the event.
