Fort Stockton’s Volleyball program traveled to Odessa to take on the Odessa High School Lady Bronchos last Tuesday, with the varsity Prowlers falling to the Lady Bronchos in four sets, 20-25, 25-23, 15-25, and 24-26.

Senior Aryanna Gonzalez defended the court for her teammates and played tremendous defense. Senior Amaya Urias was big on the front line with key blocks that helped shift the momentum of the sets in favor of the Prowlers. Senior Alyssa Rangel, Senior Sophia Hernandez and Junior Kriselda Porras came up huge from the service line, cashing in a few aces between the trio.

The Prowlers are on a tough schedule for the next few games, but the tough schedule is something that Head Coach Jessica Tully-Mitchell says will get the Prowlers ready for their upcoming district games.

“I am glad that we have a tough schedule leading up to district,” Tully-Mitchell said. “The tough schedule will help us to prepare for district play and hopefully give us an edge on our competition.”

*The junior varsity fought relentlessly and took the Lady Bronchos to three sets, but they were unable to secure a victory, but in straight sets, the freshman squad was able to put the Lady Bronchos away and earn another win on the season.

*In Friday’s match at Permian, the Prowlers competed in four games with a Varsity game, Junior Varsity game, Junior Varsity White game and a flex team game.

The varsity competed, but was unsuccessful in putting the Permian Lady Panthers away, falling in straight sets 25-13, 25-19, 25-20.

Senior Ivanna Ortiz, Senior Aryanna Gonzalez and Senior Kriselda Porras each played amazing defense for the Prowlers. Senior Sophia Hernandez recorded three solo blocks and junior Elina Montez had two great kills that shifted the momentum and helped to keep the Prowlers within striking distance.

“We are growing with each set that we play and that’s a great thing,” said Head Coach Jessica Tully-Mitchell. “Our program is slowly gaining the experience that is needed to be successful in our district and I cannot wait to see their growth when district play rolls around.”

*Each of the sub varsity squads were unsuccessful in securing a victory for the Prowlers.

Eighth Graders fall in Pecos

The Fort Stockton Middle School eighth grade Blue fell to Pecos 18-25, 2517, 15-25 on Thursday.

“We played a hard match,” said coach Vanessa Loya. “The first game was tough because we were down, but we pushed through, it was just a little too late. But we made our comeback in the second game. We fought for the win. By the third game, we were tired, but we never gave up.”

The eighth grade White fell to Pecos on the road, 25-23, 14-25, 15-25.

“The Prowler White team showed tremendous improvement,” said coach Ella Gonzales. “Communication and teamwork played a key role in their improvement (and) the team’s confidence is building as well.”

The coach named Julianna Tarango the Outstanding defensive player and Outstanding Hustle went to Meagan Hanson and Lianah Acosta.
