The Fort Stockton High School golf program hosted the annual Fort Stockton Invitational Feb. 17-18 at Desert Pines Golf Course.

Ejay Ortiz was the top performer for the Fort Stockton golf teams while the Prowlers finished in fourth place in their respective division.

Ortiz earned the Closest to the Pin award out of all competitors in the 10-team boy’s division. Ortiz carded an 85 on day one of the tournament and recorded an 18-hole score of 89 on day two to finish with 174 strokes.

The Prowlers varsity squad featuring Ariana Ureste, Savannah Carrillo, Adrianna Aguilar, and Madalyn Gomez tallied a team score of 982 to take fourth place out of the 11 teams entered in the female division.

“We had a great turnout and some good competition. I am glad that we have great numbers coming out and participating in golf this year. We need to head back to the driving range and work on a few things, but we are looking promising,” Fort Stockton head coach Lea Daggett said. “We also had great overall effort from our students. That’s all I can ask for and I am very proud.”

Ureste and Carrillo tied for a team-best score of 237 for the Prowlers. Katheryn Mendoza carded a 124 on day one of the tournament but did not play on Saturday due to softball obligations.

Compass Academy’s Allie Scott won the girl’s division with a 36-hole score of 162. Scott’s teammates, Hannah Lopez and Aubrey Stone, took second and third respectively with scores of 167 and 168.

Compass Academy won the meet by nearly 100 strokes (670) over runner-up Monahans (768) in the girl’s division.

Lillian Aumiller won the Closest to the Pin honor and teammate Isabel Gomez secured the Longest Drive award.

In the boy’s division, Caleb Gonzales was second on the Panthers with a two round score of 230. Aaden Ibarra carded a 231 and Conrado Palacios finished with 263 strokes.

Ryan Chavez only competed on day one and tallied a round of 106.

Compass Academy easily won the boy’s division as well with a team score of 707, followed by Pecos (770) and Wink (775).

Ashton Evans of Compass Academy won the Longest Drive award in the boy’s division.
