Setting school records has been the theme to Fort Stockton middle school swim team’s season in 2023.

That trend continued on March 24 at the Monahans Junior High Invitational.

The Prowler 200-yard freestyle relay, featuring Sofia Garcia, Carla Vasquez, Dustee Dale, and Alexis Rodriguez, broke their previous school record by four seconds, finishing the race in 2 minutes 25.98 seconds to place first.

Garcia, a seventh grader, easily took first place in the 50 backstroke with a time of 39.8 seconds. The improved her school record time by 2 seconds.

“Coach Michael Dupre and I are extremely proud of all 31 swimmers who completed. They have such heart, dedication, and the push to achieve better times,” Fort Stockton coach Lily Forst said.

Up next for the Blue Wave middle school swimmers is a meet in Andrews on Saturday, April 1.
