Mata named to volleyball all-district first team
Senior Eliana Mata was one of the integral parts of the Prowlers success on the volleyball court over the past three seasons.
The setter and outside hitter will leave the program as one of the most decorated athletes in recent memory. Mata was named to the 4A District 3 first-team last week following Monahans exit from the state volleyball tournament in the regional quarterfinals.
Mata served as a setter and an outside hitter in coach Gabrielle Harral’s 6-2 system over the past two seasons. As a sophomore in 2020, Mata claimed Co-Outstanding Setter in the Prowlers district.
She followed with first-team all-district honors during her junior campaign in 2021.
Mata follows last year’s Pioneer Female Athlete of the Year, Alyana Dominguez, as athletes in the program who earned first-team all-district honors for two consecutive seasons.
Libero Aryanna Gonzalez and middle block Amaya Urias snagged second-team honors in the district.
Honorable mention selections included: Ashlyn Marquez, Mia Garica, Sophia Hernandez.
Hernandez ended her volleyball career as a Prowler as a two-time honorable mention honoree.
The Prowlers had 10 athletes earn academic all-district honors: Alyssa Rangel, Katheryn Mendoza, Ivanna Ortiz, Angie Aguirre, Arial Smith, Adree Bueno, Mata, Garcia, Urias, Gonzalez.
