Nine players scored as the Buena Vista Longhorns maintained a grip on third place in District 10-1A with a 56-26 win on Monday over Grandfalls-Royalty. The win keeps Buena Vista in third place behind Sanderson and Grandfalls-Royalty with their eyes on second place.

Senior Brendon Rogers led the way for Buena Vista with 12 points and nine rebounds, Jaden Jurado and Jadyn Huertas each scored seven, Dillon Balderaz and Bradyn Huertas six each, Jackie Jurado five, Alexander Porras five, Sebastian Porras four and Marcus Martinez four.

At 16-8 overall and 6-3 in District, the Longhorns are scheduled to play host to Sanderson on Friday, Feb. 3.

Buena Vista girls down Marathon, Grandfalls-Royalty
 

The Lady Longhorns maintained second place after last Friday’s 46-37 win over Marathon, which dropped the Mustangs to third place. Everybody’s chasing Rankin, which was still unbeaten in District 10-1A heading into a scheduled game against Marathon on Jan. 31.

The Red Devils did suffer a non-district loss last Friday at Roby, which looks to win District 15-1A.

The Lady Longhorns took on Grandfalls-Royalty on Tuesday and defeated the Cowboys 64-33 according to MaxPreps.
