The Fort Stockton track team got their final preparations in before the postseason at the Tribe Relays on April 1 in Seminole.

Fort Stockton had four athletes earn first-place finishes, led by Zane Hodges and Ali Jackson who earned two gold medals apiece.

Hodges extended his title reign in the triple jump to three consecutive meets. The junior has three gold medals and one silver in his four outings in the event this season.

Hodges improved his career-best mark in the triple jump by four inches at Friday’s meet with a leap of 43 feet 5 ¼ inches.

Hodges and teammates Caleb Garcia, Aryan Hernandez hold the three top marks in the Panthers’ district.

Hodges added a gold in the 300 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 41.18 seconds. The mark was a .22 second improvement from the week prior at the San Angelo Relays.
Jackson will head into the district meet undefeated in the 800-meter dash after she claimed a title in the event on Friday with a time of 2:28. The sophomore ran a personal-best time in the 400-meter dash (1:00.67) to win a second gold medal.

Jackson will have the fastest times in the 400 and 800 in the Prowler’s district heading into Saturday’s preliminary district races in Andrews.

Leslie Esquivel won the 3,200-meter run (13:35.73) on Friday and owns the fifth-fastest time in the district in the race. The senior placed second in the 1,600 (6:12.56).

Jackson’s and Esquivel’s performances capped a fifth-place finish as a team by the Prowlers at the eight-team event.

The girl’s 400 relay team (Rosa Hernandez, Adrianna Aguilar, Estrella Aguilar, Gabriela Renteria) placed fourth.

“We have continued to show improvement over the course of this season. I believe we are peaking at the right time,” Prowlers head coach Andrew Fellows said.

Fabian Perez was one of two Fort Stockton athletes to place in the top-two in three events. Perez garnered a gold medal in the 1,600 (4:46.14) and took second in 800 and 3,200. Perez finished the 800 in a personal-best time of 2:05.18 and the 3,200 in 10:40.24.

Sprinter Miguel Trejo claimed three silver medals, doing so in the 200, 400 relay, and 800 relay.

The senior recorded a personal-best time in the 200 (22.94) – the second-fastest mark in the Panthers’ district this season.
Trejo teamed up with Hernandez, Pedro Gonzalez, and Marco Garcia in both relays.

Third-place finishers for the Panthers were Hodges (110 hurdles), Juan Vela (3,200), and Elijah Escajeda (discus).

The Fort Stockton boys finished in second place as a team with 115 points.

Fort Stockton’s track and field teams will compete in 4A District 2 prelims on Saturday, April 9 in Andrews. The finals for the event will be on Thursday, April 14.
