Fort Stockton’s three-game losing streak is over and the Panthers’ offense is back to firing on all cylinders.

The Panthers baseball team had scored a total of five runs in their past three games heading into Tuesday’s home bout against Pecos and Fort Stockton doubled that in six innings during their 10-5 win over the Eagles on April 19.

The victory evened the season series at 1-1 between the squads after Fort Stockton fell in a 14-13 slugfest in their first matchup of the season on March 29.

Fort Stockton added to their 5-3 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a pair of runs crossing home plate via a mistake-filled frame by the Eagles. The Pecos pitching staff hit three batters with a pitch and walked another in the inning. The pitching woes were combined with a defensive error and Fort Stockton’s lone hit of the frame – a single by Adrian Hernandez.

Daren Ureste and Ethan Acosta helped the Panthers extend their lead to 9-4 in the fourth inning with one hit apiece. Ureste drove in two runs with a two-out double and Acosta led the inning off with a single.

Fort Stockton starting pitcher Isaiah Velasquez nearly doubled his previous season-high strikeout total as the sophomore finished the game with five on Tuesday. Velasquez threw six innings before Julian Leyva came in for the close in the final inning. Leyva struck out two batters, walked one, and forced a flyout to end the game.

Xzavaier Dominguez led the Panthers at the plate with three hits – tying his season-high mark and the second time he has hit the total in 2022.

Acosta and Ureste had two hits each.

The Panthers outhit the Eagles 9-7 and committed two less errors (3-1).

Fort Stockton (14-9) will host Monahans (5-11-1) on April 22 and Seminole (15-9-1) on April 26 for their regular season finale.
