Garcia drops 27, propels Panthers' comeback victory
Fort Stockton’s Caleb Garcia netted a career-high 27 points against Crane on Dec. 28 in the Panthers opening contest of the Monahans Tournament.
Garcia’s career day helped Fort Stockton recover from a nine-point halftime deficit in route to a 47-46 victory – the team’s fifth win of the season.
The 27-point outing by the senior guard was the highest point total by any Panther this season and nearly double the previous top mark.
Cruz Rojas finished with a double-digit point total for the second time this season in the contest, scoring 10 points. Dominic Aguilar added five.
Fort Stockton once again suffered an early deficit in their second contest of the day against San Elizario.
But this time the Panthers were unable to recover.
The Panthers cut the San Elizario lead down to six going into the last quarter, but the comeback attempt fell short in a 56-48 loss.
Leading the team in scoring was Dominic Aguilar with 20 points – a season-high mark for the senior. Rojas finished with eight points off the bench while Ethan Acosta had seven, and Caleb Garcia scored six.
The Panthers will continue play at the tournament on Wednesday and Thursday.
