The Fort Stockton softball team is back in the postseason for the first time since 2019, and they left no doubts they should be there with an emphatic win against Pecos on April 19 to end the regular season.

Yadira Hernandez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game via mercy rule with an 11-1 victory. The dinger was the second of the junior’s career and the first this season.

Hernandez was one of seven Prowlers that recorded hits during Tuesday’s regular season finale. Mia Garcia and Ivanna Ortiz paced Fort Stockton with two hits apiece and combined for three RBIs.

Fort Stockton was consistent on both sides of the ball throughout the contest, scoring at least one run in five of the six innings that were played.

Adree Bueno and Kriselda Porras were equally as consistent on the mound for the Prowlers. The duo, who have been Prowlers’ primary pitchers in district play, allowed five hits, struck out three, and gave up two walks.

Bueno got the start and pitched four innings before the freshman Porras took over on the mound.

The Prowlers took at 2-0 lead in the first inning and added another three runs in the second to take a 5-0 advantage out of the gates. Pecos scored their only run in the third before Fort Stockton responded with a three-run fourth inning.

Fort Stockton added one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to end the game.

The Prowlers outhit the Lady Eagles 10-5 and committed one less error (5-4) in the contest.

Fort Stockton, who finished in fourth place in District 2-4A, will take on either Clint or Riverside in the bi-district round of the playoffs on Saturday, April 30 in a best-of-two series. The two teams were co-district champions of District 1-4A.
