Fort Stockton downed by district elites
The Fort Stockton girls basketball team competed against the top two teams in District 2-4A – Seminole and Greenwood – over the last seven days.
The Prowlers were downed by the Seminole in a road matchup by the score of 88-25. The Maidens are the only undefeated team left in the district and ranked No. 18 in Class 4A according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Fort Stockton led in scoring against Seminole by Alyana Dominguez, who finished with 10 points. Eliana Mata followed with five points and Ortiz tallied four.
The Prowlers put forth a stronger defensive performance on Feb. 1 against Greenwood but fell short in a 46-28 defeat.
“Our kids played pretty good on defense, but we failed to convert the opportunities our defense created,” Fort Stockton head coach Sherman Chew said.
Dominguez led the Prowlers in scoring once again with 11 points and Mata followed with eight. Kat Mendoza finished with three.
Fort Stockton (10-19) will take on Andrews (6-21) Friday night with a playoff berth on the line. Game tips off at 6:00 p.m. in Andrews.
