Cheerleaders receive awards at ASU camp
The Fort Stockton junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders attended Cheer Camp from June 4-7 at Angelo State University.
Sponsors MiMi Sena and Kim Dutchover attended the camp with the Prowlers.
The junior varsity and varsity squads received the banana award at camp. The banana is awarded daily for the school with the most spirit and who stood out above the rest, which Fort Stockton claimed via unanimous decision by judges. Winning the banana award is equal to winning the lottery in cheerleading terms.
The junior varsity squad was awarded one superior trophy while the varsity received two superior trophies.
Sophomore mascot Avan Lujan earned several awards including Outstanding Mascot, Camp Champ Trophy, All-American Mascot and Pin it Forward for his leadership.
“He did an amazing job,” Sena said.
Sophomore Cheerleader Lizeth Robles also received a forward pin. The pin is forwarded from the UCA staff and other schools showing leadership and helping other squads in need.
Fort Stockton had two cheerleaders who were selected All-American Cheerleaders by the UCA staff and received individual medals for their achievement. Girls receiving All-American Cheerleader were Sophomore Aubrie Salgado and senior Carolina Sauceda.
