Another record-setting day for Blue Wave middle schoolers
Fort Stockton Middle School’s Blue Wave swim team made a statement last weekend at the Odessa Middle School Invitational. The girls won the meet and the boys were second, just eight points off the pace for first place.
School records fell once again for the Blue Wave.
Sofia Garcia continued her dominance, breaking her own school record by 1.5 seconds in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 41.85 seconds, and Carla Vasquez set a school record in the 100 individual medley, which consists of the butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle.
Another school record was shattered from 2017 by 11.5 seconds in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 2:33.89. The group consists of Alexis Rodriguez, Garcia, Vasquez and Dustee Dale.
Rodriguez and Emmry Warren claimed individual first-place finishes, doing so in the 50 free and 50 breast stroke.
Second-place finishers included the boys 200 free relay team of Alexandro Montoya, Grayson Foster, Christian Soto and Dario Montes.
Third-place finishes went to the girls 200-Yard medley relay team (Garcia, Warren, Vasquez, Rodriguez), Dale in the 50 free; Montes in the 50 free, and Soto in the 50 breast.
The girls 200 free relay squad set the new school record holder and took third at last week’s meet.
Fort Stockton’s fourth-place finishes included: Montes (100 free), Rodriguez (50 back), Montoya (50 breast), B girls 200 free relay (Warren, Katelynne Borsberry, Amyia Petty, Laeila Hernandez); B boys 200 free relay (Isaiah Granado, Saul Natividad, Gilbert Tres Hinotroza, Coleman Torres).
“Coach Dupre and I are immensely proud of all swimmers and proud of their improvement in just one week. Everyone's personal times were broken and showed strength in their respective events,” Fort Stockton coach Lily Forst said.
