A fifth inning triple by Alfredo Molina scored Dominic Bernal with the go-ahead run for Fort Stockton, completing a rally begun the previous inning.

But a single seventh inning run and two putouts at home plate lifted Andrews to a 5-4 district win on Tuesday night.

Fort Stockton (17-51 overall, 2-3 in District 3-4A) spotted the Mustangs (16-7, 4-1) a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning with two runs scoring on an error at second base and a homerun by Jaesean DeBouse. But the Panthers rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth.

Gerry Diaz singled with one out and later scored on a single by Molina, with a single by Jaydrien Ramirez scoring Bernal and courtesy runner Marco Garcia.

The Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on Molina’s RBI triple, but Andrews won it when Hagen Tuck led off with a single, later stealing home.

Fort Stockton had one last shot in the bottom of the seventh when Diaz doubled and Bernal singled, but Diaz was thrown out at home on the play. Garcia was put in to run for Bernal as a pinch runner but was thrown out at home on a single by Xzavier Dominguez to end the game.

Molina went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and Ramirez went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Diaz hit a double and Molina a triple to help Fort Stockton’s cause.

Molina pitched seven complete innings with three strikeouts and a walk in 103 pitches.

The Panthers travel to Andrews April 11 and play host to Greenwood April 14.
