Perspective on populism and partisanship

Body
I write this sitting at a cafe in front of the Italian Parliament, waiting for the president to resign. After two years of watching my own countrymen try to get rid of our leader in two partisan and meritless impeachment shams, the last thing I wanted was to spend my vacation in Rome watching another country give the premature pink slip to its head of state.

Summer time fruits and veggies

Body
Summer is the time when fresh fruits and vegetables are in full swing with gardens, farmers markets, and producers harvesting the fruits. My garden is growing and producing many yellow squash, peppers and tomatoes. Summer is when enjoy more fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden and markets. We look forward for the fresh taste of Coyanosa and Pecos cantaloupes and watermelons.

Fritters — not just for apples

Body
If you have ever grown your own garden and planted zucchini, you know that it can get out of hand very quickly. One plant, if taken care of properly, makes enough zucchini to feed a family of four with plenty of leftovers to share with friends and family or even neighbors. These plants are prolific, and besides preparing this overabundance by freezing some of it or serving by sauteing or deep frying, there is another way to enjoy it fried when combined with another garden favorite.

Mediterranean mac and cheese

Body

What comes to mind when you think about mac and cheese? Is it that quick and easy box of mac and cheese that you keep in stock because your kids are fussy eaters, or you are a broke college student? Is it that golden topped cheesy goodness you get when your cheese sauce is roux based and not some powdered, chemical substance? Or is it even that super creamy mac and cheese you used to be able to get at many restaurants? No matter what your idea of mac and cheese is, the folks at GOLO have produced a different take on an old time favorite.

Drive-in theatre rebirth here to stay

Body
I’m going to the drive-in this weekend – for the first time in 42 years. You see, the COVID pandemic has disrupted and rearranged our lives forever, but it has also given birth to some wonderful trends, such as the comeback of the drive-in movie theater.

The All-Star game few say, and fewer remember

Body
In 1963, an All-Star game was played that few fans watched, and 59 years later, nobody remembers. The game, comprised exclusively of Latino players from the American and National Leagues, took place at the New York Giants’ historic Polo Grounds – the last game played at Coogan’s Bluff.

Taking a look at the spring feasts

Body
This week we will look at the spring feasts, called this because of when they fall on the Jewish lunar calendar. Michael Norton in his book, “Unlocking the Secrets of the Feasts,” said, “The spring feasts picture the events surrounding Jesus Christ’s first coming.” (page 15) He goes on to say that the scripture in Leviticus chapter 23 verses 1-2 tells us that the feasts are God’s feasts, not Israel’s.
