By now, many of you have heard about the Securities and Exchange Commission’s plan to require publicly traded companies to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions. The proposed rule, issued earlier this year, requires these companies to disclose not only direct and energy-related emissions, but also those of every downstream supplier, known as Scope 3 Emissions. As you might imagine, this presents significant concerns for cattle producers who find themselves in the supply chain of many publicly traded companies, restaurants, and retailers.

Dear Editor, As a taxpayer in Pecos County, I’m opposed to the two school bonds on the Nov. 8 ballot for the following reasons: 1.

As the congressman for the Texas 23rd Congressional District, I am committed to serving the needs of my constituents. I take great pride in the hard work my team and I are doing for Texas.

When I was in a college geology class in West Texas, our professor decided that we needed to go on a field trip together. We first went down to the Big Bend, where we saw many interesting things in the rocks and the mountains. Then we went to a place none of us had ever been before. It was south of the town of Marathon, and it was called Cantonment Pena Colorada, or Camp Pena Colorado. Our professor called it Fort Pena Colorado.

Dear Neil: We need some help identifying and controlling this wild growth. It originated where we had a non-producing pecan cut to the ground last winter. It came up in the spring, and has grown more rapidly than anything we have ever seen. Should we dig it up and trash it, or will it turn into something desirable?

September is Apple Month. When school starts and September is here, who can’t start to think about all those wonderful apples ready for picking and eating. Apples are easy to cut and place in school lunches, for snacks, and salads. There are over a 100 ways to use apples.

I’m confused. I got the flu a few months ago, the worst flu I’d ever had.

Now that my oldest and middle daughters are off at college dashing my prospects for retirement, and my youngest daughter has started navigating the pubescent challenges of high school, I can turn to more important matters – namely, pants.

Some Easterners and others don’t think Texas has any mountains, but we know better. We have lots of mountains in West Texas. And the highest mountain in Texas is Guadalupe Peak north of Van Horn, topping the clouds at 8,751 feet. When I was a teenager, I decided I wanted to climb the highest mountain in Texas, and in sort of an amateurish way, I did climb it. Years later, I got curious about what was the second highest mountain in Texas. It was Mount Livermore, or Old Baldy (8,378 feet high), in the Davis Mountains.

Dear Neil: How can I control this vine? I planted it a few years ago and it has gone crazy. I’ve cut it back to its roots a number of times, but it keeps coming back. How can I eliminate it permanently?
