Reflection Poem
Each year during the holiday season I write a reflection’s poem for the members and friends of our church. I’d like to share this year’s offering with you for our first pastor’s column of the new year.
2020
Not a comforting year
But...a year for comforting
Covid...they said
Hand washing... but so often?
Masks…for those who love smiles
Distancing...asked of huggers
Quarantining…from community
Separation...by crowd lovers
The Church...gathering virtually
Alone together... together alone
Common good trans morphed
From one nation under God
To two lands deeply divided
Still, as through the ages
God is with us, calling us
To comfort others...THOSE OTHERS
Singing songs in a strange time
Rejoicing, praying, thanking
Lighting candles of hope
Seeking the light of the coming dawn
Comforted by HIS rod and staff
As we seek to comfort others.
Psalm 137:4 How could we sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land?
Isaiah 40:1 Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God.
1 Thes. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Psalm 23. Your rod and staff comfort me
