Steven Jay McCollum passed away on Jan. 5, 2022 in San Angelo, Texas. Steve was born on Sept. 3, 1953, in San Angelo, to Gladys and Rufus McCollum. He grew up in San Angelo, attending and graduating from Central High School, then Angelo State University.

Steve held multiple careers that included working for M.L. Leddy's in Fort Worth, and various salesman positions in San Angelo for GTE and most recently Coverlay.

During his lifetime, Steve created and fostered friendships through his gregarious and infectious personality. He had a talent to entertain and make people laugh, no matter what the situation, which included pranking coworkers, friends, and family. Steve will fondly be remembered as Jimmy Buffett to many of his friends (fans) due to his looks and attempted musical talents with the harmonica, snare drum, and even kitchen canisters. Anyone who spent time with Steve in the garage, or his tiki bar, inevitably became family. He loved to spend time with friends and family listening to music and playing cards.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Rufus; his sister Beverly Ratliff; and numerous pets who will be excited to see him again.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend of 32 years P.J. McCollum; his daughter and movie watching companion Lauren McCollum; and his brother-in-law Gerald Ratliff, all of San Angelo. He is also survived by P.J.'s family, Wanda, JD, Shirley, and John David Cook; his favorite dog Rosie the Golden Retriever, and favorite grand-dog Betty White; niece Merritt Ratliff of San Angelo; nephew Jeff Ratliff of Dallas; cousins Wayne Millsap, Becky Allison, Billie Lynn Tjaden, Chuck Davis, Mae Millsap, and Ricky Millsap.

A memorial service was held Jan. 10, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Joel Moore officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Hudson, Steve Eustis, Sammy Farmer, Jerome Buckman, Leroy Featherston, and Steven Kadlacek.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Concho Valley Paws or Angelo State University.
