Monty Irvin Bohanan
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned: he has crossed over from death to life” John 5:24 Monty Irvin Bohanan went to be with the Lord on March 27, after a long battle with cancer. Monty was a resident of Sugar Land, TX but his heart resided at his beloved place near Winters, TX where he loved to entertain family and a very long list of friends. Monty was born in San Antonio, TX on December 16, 1969 and grew up in McCamey, TX.
To describe Monty as a character would be a huge understatement. His largerthan- life personality and unique sense of humor will be missed by many but forever remembered.
Monty loved everything about the West, whether it be reminiscing about his time spent at Sul Ross State University or Angelo State University, boating on Lake Amistad, fly fishing or hunting in the Rocky Mountains. Wherever he went and regardless of what he was doing he was sure to make friends along the way. Monty had a servant heart, and this was reflected in his love for cooking for others, which he was very good at – so good at it that he and “Pop” were prior champions of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. These skills combined with his unmatched ability to entertain with his tales and stories led him to an extremely successful career in business development at ChampionX, where he worked for most of his 35year career.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (known to many as Ed, the name Monty had given her very early in their relationship) his children Breely Bohanan and Caleb Bohanan, many other relatives, and many friends who thought of him as a brother. He was preceded in death by his dad, Walter “Pop” Bohanan.
Graveside services under the direction of Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home will be held Thursday, April 3 2:00 p.m. at the Whitely Cemetery, 4511 Block of West Highway 29, Georgetown Texas 78626.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to The Toby Keith Foundation in memory of Monty.
