Mickey C. Smith, 80, of Fort Stockton, Texas,  passed away May 6, 2022, at his mother-in-law’s home in Wall, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 36 years and love of his lif Phyllis Halfmann Smith of Fort Stockton.

He was born April 3, 1942, in Odessa, Texas, but lived his early years in and around San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1960, then joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Smith was honorably discharged in 1964. He was honored to have served his country, and was proud to be an American.
He was instrumental in building the International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association shooting range east of Fort Stockton. His friend Frank Pacheco commented that the whole range was built in Mickey feet.” Several state and international matches were held at the range which is now used by the Pecos County 4-H Club.

The majority of his life he worked as a mechanic, a profession he learned from his father, Curtis J. Cap” Smith. He owned and operated Smiths Garage in Fort Stockton. Smith was a man of many talents. He played semi-pro baseball, had all the best recipes, and always knew how to make his loved ones laugh, or put a smile on their faces. He was passionate about cooking, and loved to barbecue. He competed in and won many barbecue competitions across the state. Smith was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children Kayleen and husband Steve Rivera of San Antonio, Mike Tyrrell and wife Tammy, and Tom Tyrrell of Snyder, Texas, Dawn and husband Gary Clayton of Caldwell, Texas, Sharon Tyrrell, and Laura and husband Jeremy Mattingley of Fruita, Colo. He is also survived by his sister Jackie Hoyo of San Antonio, and his brother Vaughn Smith and wife Mary of Tucson, Ariz. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who all loved him dearly, Kennedy Rivera and Truman Rivera of San Antonio, Brock Tyrrell and wife Lindsey, MJ and Joley of Van Horn, Texas, Courtney and Jamie Arnold, Harlow and Grayson of Lubbock, Texas, Taylor and Brady Chrestman, and Audrey of College Station, Texas, Maria and Dave Mitchell and Lily and Anthony Tyrrell all of Chicago, Ill., Vincent Tyrrell of Madison, Wisc., Mallory Paige and Darryl of London, England, Regi Wike of Wink, Texas, Julynn and Tanner Belliveau of Shallowater, Texas, Blair Clayton of Caldwell, Texas, Zachary Mattingley and Emma Mattingley of Fruita, Colo., Sara Larsen of Washington, Kira, Kruz, and Kaitlyn of Oceanside, Calif., Lana Maldonado and children, and Mandy Wike and children all of Odessa.

He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews James, John, Cathy Hoyo, and Linda K. Smith of San Antonio, John Smith and Karen Smith of Kennewick, Wash., Brianne and Duane Killam, Addy, Karter, and Lexi, Shyanne and Jason Holik, Kylee, Jaxon, and Maggie, Tyler and Laci Halfmann, Sutton and Stockton, Justin and Ashley Halfmann, and Colt and Ree all of Wall, Casi Halfmann and Brad Kozisek of San Angelo, Texas, Courtney and James Hambright and Paige of Lexington, Ky., and  Hellen Harris of Athens, Greece.
He was preceded in death by his children Chuck Smith of San Antonio, and Jack Burleson and Julie Burleson of Fort Stockton; his brother C.D. Smith and wife Barbara of Kennewick, and  his great-niece Hadlee Anne Holik of Wall.
