Jessie, also known as Mom, Pink Lady, Mom J, Grandma J, or Pink Grandma, was born in Fort Stockton on March 16, 1931, to Juan Gonzalez and Eliza Bernard. Jessie and her beloved husband, Lucas F. Mesa, Sr., were married on July 4, 1950. After only completing the eighth grade, she received her GED in 1987 at the age of 56.

Jessie was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, and was part of the Guadalupana Society. She served for numerous years as a pink lady for the Pecos County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

When you visited Grandma J, you could enjoy her delicious famous meals, listen to her pray her Rosary, and even watch her complete her search word puzzles. We certainly could not leave Mom’s house without having some of her refried beans or enchiladas. Mom J enjoyed her sweets, and you could win her heart if you shared cookies or ice cream with her. Pink Grandma loved her stylish wardrobes, and her favorite colors were pink and purple.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lucas F. Mesa, Sr.; brothers Pedro V. Gonzalez, IB Isidro Gonzalez, Froilo Gonzalez, Sr., and Manuel Ismael Gonzalez; and sisters Guadalupe G. Urias, Emma G. Ramirez, Alicia G. Valenzuela, and Francis G. Casas.

Jessie is survived by her sons Lucas (Freda) Mesa, Jr., and Gilbert G. Mesa; daughters Grace Ella Franco, Linda Sue (Joe) Gonzales, and Romelia (Salvador) Rodriguez; sisters Dorthy (Jimmy) Stokes, and Reyes Sanchez; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

The family of Jessie wishes to humbly express their appreciation to the staff of Seton Medical Center Williamson in Round Rock, the staff of Family Tree Living Assistance in Round Rock, and her daughters Grace, Linda, and Romelia for taking such amazing care of our beautiful mother.
