Jamie Sue Lancaster Dunn
Born June 28, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas, Jamie Sue Lancaster Dunn was the daughter of WWII Navy veteran Dr. James Dayle Lancaster and PHS-registered nurse Nella Susan Moran Lancaster. She grew up in Fort Stockton, where she graduated with pride as part of the Fort Stockton High School Class of 1969.
Jamie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1977. She went on to manage two successful businesses in Fort Stockton—D&L Well Service and The Print Shop—beginning in 1981.
On July 23, 1968, Jamie married the love of her life, Gene Alton Dunn, at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Stockton, just before he left for his tour of duty in Vietnam as a member of the United States Army, 8th Cavalry. Upon his return, the couple spent seven years in Arlington, Texas, where Jamie worked as an administrator in the emergency department at Arlington Memorial Hospital while completing her degree and raising their first son, Michael Seanacy.
In 1981, Jamie and Gene returned to Fort Stockton to start D&L Well Service alongside Jamie’s father and in-laws, Glynn and Joetta Dunn. Jamie loved life in her hometown and was an active and joyful presence in the community. She participated in the Garden Club, Bunko Club, Chamber of Commerce, Water Carnival, and led water aerobics at the high school pool for many years. Jamie and Gene gave generously to their community, strengthening the local economy through their businesses and their support of local initiatives.
Jamie had a deep devotion to Fort Stockton High School football, and an even greater passion for the Pride of Pantherland Band, where she had been a member from 1966–1968.
Beyond her professional life, Jamie was a gifted artist and poet, known for her exquisite penmanship. She appreciated fine art—particularly the works of Monet—and filled her home with beautiful prints. Her eclectic musical taste ranged from classical composers like Chopin to rock legends like Joe Walsh. Her home was a haven—warm with the scent of bacon and Yankee Candles—and always open to friends, family, and neighbors alike.
A true philanthropist, Jamie supported others quietly and deeply, both personally and through her work with Hands On Outreach at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene, Texas. She was a source of comfort and encouragement to so many, always offering a seat at her table along with food, advice, inspiration, and unwavering love.
Jamie was preceded in death by her mother, Nella Susan Moran Lancaster; father, Dr. James Dayle Lancaster; brother, James Stephen Lancaster; father-inlaw, Glynn Roy Dunn; motherin- law, Joetta Williams Dunn; son, Michael Seanacy Dunn; and her husband, Gene Alton Dunn.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria Susetta “Susie” Dunn Rockett and husband Christopher Alan Rockett; son, Jackon Poyner “J.P.” Dunn and wife Christina De La O Dunn; sister, Jessica Katherine Lancaster Tracy; brother, Thomas Calvin Lancaster; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Jamie’s granddaughters— Amelia Susan Rockett, Eleanor Gene Rockett, and Taylor Gene Dunn—were her greatest joy, and she spent her final years watching them grow with boundless pride. She was also a second mother to many “adopted” children, always treating them as her own.
In lieu of flowers, Jamie Sue wished for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family of Jamie Sue extends heartfelt thanks to her cherished caregiver, Sarah Ferguson of Abilene, who gave our mother a great outlook on life and made her final months some of her best in years. We are also deeply grateful to the clergy and Eucharistic Ministers of the Church of the Heavenly Rest for their continued prayers and visits. And finally, we thank all of Jamie’s friends and family for the abundant love and support you’ve shown—thank you for loving her as we did.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the East Hill Cemetary in Ft. Stockton. To honor Jamie’s favorite color, wear something blue.
