Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 11 a.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro, Louisiana for Emma Valenzuela, age 80, the former Emma Velasquez, who passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 at Lafayette General Medical Center. 
Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. Pastor Randy Duhon of Church of Christ will officiate at the services. 
Musical selections will be The Old Rugged Cross and How Great Thou Art. Recessional song will be performed by Armando Valenzuela. 
Mrs. Valenzuela was a native of Fort Stockton, Texas and a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana. She was a retired elementary and middle school teacher. A devoted Christian woman of God, she served as Sunday school teacher and church bookkeeper for over 40 years. 
Emma enjoyed sewing, baking, and teaching Vacation bible school. She valued and treasured the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Survivors include two daughters, Erica Guidry and her husband, John, and Erina Valenzuela of Lafayette, La.; one son, John Eric Valenzuela and his wife, Leslie, of Alexandria, La.; five grandchildren, Erinn Smith and her husband, Damon; Elise Messer and her husband, Jared; Armando Valenzuela; Antonio Valenzuela, and Amillio Valenzuela; two great grandchildren, Emma-Grace Smith and Cullen Smith; and her siblings, Velia Vargas; Francis Livingston of Lafayette; Dora Nunez of Anson, Texas; Gloria Velasquez of Fort Stockton; Lewis Velasquez of Arlington, Texas; Hope Fuentes of Gilroy, Texas; Tony Velasquez of Grand Falls, Texas; Joann Rodriguez of Fort Stockton; Ann Sosa of Youngsville, La.; Kim Gonzales of San Antonio; Mary Lou Bourgeois of Church Point, La.; Alex Velasquez of Midland, and Cindy Boggs of Midland and 300 nieces and nephews.  

She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan “Junie” Valenzuela, Jr., whom she was married to for 59 blessed years; her parents, Cipriano Velasquez and Guadalupe Gutierrez Velasquez; and one brother, Cipriano Velasquez, Jr. 

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday. A reception will immediately follow the services at the Old Melancon Funeral Home (4615 N. University Ave. Carencro, Louisiana) 
Pallbearers will be John Eric Valenzuela, Armando Valenzuela, Antonio Valenzuela, Amillio Valenzuela, John Guidry, Damon Smith, and Jared Messer. Honorary pallbearer will be Cullen Smith.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, is in charge of arrangements.
