Edison “E. W.” Hallford
May 16, 1941 - November 29, 2024 E.W. Hallford passed away at the age of 83. He was born in Fort Stockton, Texas to Edison Hallford, Sr. and Emma (Hartmann) Hallford of Fredericksburg, Texas.
E.W. excelled in band and baseball. He became an accomplished trumpet player. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father, mother, sister, Dan Hartmann and other relatives on the family place on Loudon Road.
After graduating from Fredericksburg High School, he went to Tarleton State Junior College. He accepted a scholarship to Texas Tech where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Master’s in Administration. He was a leader in ROTC. He met his wife of 59 years, Rubye (Clingingsmith) Hallford, in the Goin’ Band from Raiderland under Dean Killion and Dick Tolley. He married Rubye in 1965 in Dimmitt, Texas.
In 1967, he joined the U.S. Army, became a captain and flew helicopters in the Vietnam War. He was a band director in Albany, Texas and Devine, Texas.
The Hill Country was calling his name, so he bought acreage in Fredericksburg and ran the Hallford Pick Your Own Peach Orchard for 27 years. He became a rancher in 2003 and continued ranching until his death. He was a shepherd in his faith. He sang in the church choir and played in the orchestra. Those who knew him, knew kindness.
He is survived by wife Rubye; sister Emmelyne; sons Danny and Jeffrey; five grandchildren Emma, J.T., Danielle, Emily and Kate. He is preceded in death by parents Edison and Emma and grandson Michael.
The memorial service was 11 a.m. Saturday, December 14, at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg, Texas.
