Alfonso Aranda, 87, of Fort Stockton, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, in Fort Stockton.

Alfonso was born in La Mula, Ojinaga, Chihuahua to Juliana Garcia and Manuel Aranda on Oct. 22, 1935. He married Gloria Estela Sanchez on Feb. 8, 1964, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua. His education opportunities were limited; however, he was self-taught and very wise. He worked in agriculture for many years from tractor operator, cleaning fields, picking produce, supervising people to truck driving. He also worked in construction and insulation before he retired. Alfonso was a devout practicing Catholic who enjoyed spending time with family and friends and could talk endlessly.

Alfonso is preceded in death by his wife Gloria Estela Aranda; his parents Juliana and Manuel Aranda; his sisters Abigail Salgado and Aurora Aranda; his brothers Abelardo Aranda, Alesio Aranda, Arturo Aranda and Hector Aranda.

He is survived by children Manuel (Rosario) Aranda from San Antonio; Odile (Manuel) Sanchez from Eagle Pass, and Gerardo Aranda from Fort Stockton; his grandchildren Alberto Aranda, Angelina Valdovinos, TaviAnn Aranda, Mariana Sanchez, Moshe Sanchez, Aryel Sanchez, Azahel Sanchez; great grandchildren Adalina and Catalina Valdovinos.

Pallbearers will be Gerardo Aranda, Manuel Aranda, Alberto Aranda, Héctor Aranda, Lupe Lujan and Ricardo Lujan.

The Aranda family would like to thank all the staff of Home Hospice and Fort Stockton Focus Care for their attention and care.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023, from 2-8 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Eternity Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be on Monday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Isidore officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Eternity Funeral Home.
