Abel Terrazas Gutierrez
Abel Terrazas Gutierrez, 78, passed away on May 20, after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary arterial hypertension at UT Southwestern William P Clements Jr. University Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
Abel was born to Andres & Anita Gutierrez Sr. on March 15, 1948, in Big Spring, Texas. Abel grew up on Baker’s Ranch and attended Iraan Public Schools where he graduated as the Salutatorian of his Senior Class.
On November 28, 1969, Abel married the love of his life, Anabela, in the middle of a snowstorm – a true testament to their commitment to one another. Together, they were blessed with one daughter, Traci.
Throughout his career, Abel worked in several industries, including construction and oil & gas. He spent more than 35 years working in the oil and gas industry ending his career as a safety inspector before officially retiring.
Abel was known for his generous heart and love for his family. He was known for his delicious pan de campo he made on his hunting trips or backyard gatherings and for his homemade cinnamon rolls he made on special occasions. He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a member of the church choir under Sister Frances Jean and Sister Felice many years ago. Prior to his illness, Abel enjoyed a good round of golf or two. He was also a proud member of the Fort Stockton Lions Club, where and enjoyed serving the community and supporting local youth of Fort Stockton.
Abel was a devoted Texas Longhorn fan. He followed the Longhorns’ football, baseball, softball and basketball teams. He would be the first to give any Aggie or Sooner, and even his Red Raider brother in-law, Randy, grief for not being a Longhorn. Hook ‘Em Horns!
Abel is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anabela Gutierrez; his parents Andres and Anita Gutierrez Sr; his brothers Andrez Gutierrez Jr. and Martin Gutierrez; his nephew Ricardo Gutierrez; his primo Alverto Gonzales; and many cherished aunts, uncles and family members.
Abel is survived by his daughter, Traci Gutierrez of Round Rock, Texas; his brother Antonio Gutierrez (Rosie) of San Angelo, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and extended family who will miss him dearly.
Abel’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the ICU team and pulmonary hypertension team of doctors at UT Southwestern William P Clements Jr. University Hospital for their compassionate care. They also extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Young, Jennifer and Yvonne with Pecos County Memorial Hospital for their dedicated support and care over the years. Special appreciation is extended to Randy and Lina Baiza, Roy and Becky Leach, Mike and Lupe Ramos, Fi Lopez, Mike Vasquez and Olga and Laura Jean Gonzalez for their unwavering support and countless phone calls. The family also wishes to thank Nancy Olvera and the staff at Eternity Funeral Home for their guidance and assistance during this difficult time. Finally, the family is deeply grateful to all who offered prayers, encouragement, and love throughout Abel’s illness and hospitalization. Your prayers and love were truly felt.
In accordance with Abel’s wishes, he will be cremated. The Funeral Services will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe – St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Monday, June 8, 2026, with rosary at 9:30 AM, Mass at 10:00 AM, and Burial to follow at Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery.
