Capital Highlights: Early voting begins Oct. 24

Early voting in the Nov. 8 general election begins Oct. 24 and runs through Nov. 4. Applications for voting by mail must be received by Oct. 28, according to the secretary of state’s office.

Texans are eligible to vote by mail if they are 65 or older; sick or disabled; are expected to give birth within three weeks of Election Day; will be absent from the county where they vote during early voting and on Election Day; or are in jail but otherwise eligible.

Consuelo Hermana Chelito” Benavides Mendiola, passed away on Oct. 11, 2022, in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Visitation was held on Oct. 17, 2022, at Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Stockton. Funeral services were held on Oct. 18, 2022, at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Vicente Cabello of Templo Agua Viva Iglesia officiating. Burial followed at East Hill Cemetery.

Fort Stockton and Monahans collided on Friday night and the contest lived up to the hype in a slugfest between the rivals.

Friday’s contest featured 850 yards of total offense between the teams in a 38-29 win for the Loboes.

Prowlers take down Pecos in five, keep playoff hopes intact

All aspects of the Fort Stockton Prowler volleyball team’s game had to come together just right in order to take down the Pecos Eagles on Oct. 14. It did, and the Prowlers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 22-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 15-13 win.

“The varsity squad came out with a chip on their shoulder and victory on their minds,” coach Sera Ramirez said.
