Seniors Daren Ureste and Isaiah Garcia received top honors for the Panthers in 4A-2 District 1 for their outstanding play this past season. Ureste tallied a team-best 85 tackles and 16 tackles for loss while Garcia accumulated a team-high 1,452 all-purpose yards to go along 15 touchdowns.

On the field this past season, the Panthers football team put forth one of the best seasons in school history with a 10-win campaign that featured an area round appearance in Class 4A-2.

Fort Stockton’s all-district selections exemplified their on-field success this past week as 18 Panthers were recognized by coaches within 4A-2 District 1.

The honorees were announced following Monahans’ exit from the fourth round of the playoffs – a 62-14 defeat to Glen Rose this past weekend.

Do-it-all defensive back and wide receiver Isaiah Garica, and linebacker Daren Ureste earned Most Valuable Player honors within the district. Garcia was recognized as the Offensive MVP of the district while Ureste finished as the Defensive MVP of the district. Monahans quarterback Cheno Navarrette was named the overall MVP of the district.

Of the Panthers’ first and second team all-district selections, 13 are seniors and five are juniors.

The following is the Fort Stockton all-district selections:

Offensive MVP, First Team Defensive Back: Isaiah Garcia, Senior As Fort Stockton Head Coach Jeremy Hickman said following the first game of the season, “whenever the ball is in Isaiah’s hands, we have a chance to score. Isaiah is an explosive athlete and that’s what he brings to the table, big play ability on both sides of the ball.” Garcia proved to be dangerous wherever he lined up as the senior had a passing touchdown, four rushing TDs, nine receiving TDs, and a kick return TD to go along with his team-high 1,452 all-purpose yards.

On defense, Garcia had 24 tackles, a tackle for loss, an interception and five pass deflections.

The two-way athlete finished his career with 25 touchdowns, 2,592 all-purpose yards, 167 tackles, and eight interceptions.

Defensive MVP: Daren Ureste, Senior

Ureste represented the heart and soul of the Panthers defensive and as a captain of the team. The senior made the defensive calls on the field for Fort Stockton and put on a show after every game with his signature back flip.

“Daren is the heartbeat of the team. You can’t replace a player like that. You can’t replace that heart.” Hickman said following the Panthers last week of the season.

The inside backer tallied a team-best 85 tackles and 16 tackles for loss during the season – 15 higher than the next in line. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound defender, who was a three-year starter for the Panthers at linebacker, ended his career with an impressive 281 tackles and 36.5 tackles for loss.
