Gonzalez leads Blue Wave at Monahans Invite
Fort Stockton High School’s Blue Wave swim team continues to improve its times as the season moves along. At last Saturday’s Monahans Invitational, the Blue Wave had several swimmers place in the Top 10, individually.
Junior Kassidy Pacheco had a seed time of 29th place but improved that to a ninth-place overall finish and junior Paige Williams dropped more than two seconds in her 50-yard freestyle heat. Sophomore Ella O’Tierney finished behind Paige, junior Aviana Vargas dropped two seconds and Junior Zeeta Celaya completed the girls' complement in the 50-yard freestyle.
On the boys’ side, senior Eric Gonzalez finished sixth in the 50-yard freestyle for the highest individual placement for the Blue Wave with a time of 26.36 seconds. Freshman Liam Pules finished 16th, winning his heat, and Junior Luke Pules finished 18th in the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Haiden Guevara also competed in the 50-yard freestyle for his inaugural event.
In the girls 100-yard freestyle, Aviana Vargas placed 14th and Zeeta Celaya finished 15th. For the boys, Eric Gonzalez finished eighth, Liam Pules finished 13th with his best time by four seconds, Luke Pules finished 21st and Haiden Guevara finished 25th.
The girls 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kassidy Pacheco, Paige Williams, Ella O’Tierney and Zeeta Celaya finished 13th. The boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Eric Gonzalez, Liam Pules, Luke Pules and Haiden Guevara finished 10th.
In the girl’s 100 backstroke, Ella O’Tierney placed 13th overall and Paige Williams place 13th in the 100-yard Breaststroke.
The next meet for the Blue Wave swim team will be Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Carlsbad, New Mexico Invitational. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. Mountain time.
