Vaccine now available to those under 65-years-old

COVID-19 vaccine administration in Pecos County has kept a steady pace since the start of the new year and on Wednesday, Feb. 10, people below the age of 65 were able to receive a vaccine for the first time.

Individuals that were 16-years-old and older with at least one pre-existing condition were allowed to get the vaccine on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Pecos County Memorial Hospital held a vaccine clinic at the Civic Center starting at 9 a.m. Individuals 65 and older with a pre-existing condition were able to arrive starting at 9 a.m.

People who received the shot were able to live outside Pecos County, along with those who live in the county.

Individuals 16 and older with a pre-existing condition were able arrive after at 11 a.m.

PCMH had 498 Pfizer Vaccines entering Wednesday’s vaccine clinic and those shots were given on a first come, first serve basis.

As of 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 91 of the 498 shots had been given.

The PCMH waiting list no longer exists and shots will be given on a first come, first serve basis moving forward.

There have been 1,521 people who have received their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine thus far by PCMH. Of those 1,521 people, 393 have received their second dose.

Last week there were approximately 400 Moderna vaccines administered as firsttime doses.

Two weeks ago, there were 467 doses of the Pfizer vaccine given by PCMH.

Those were the first Pfizer vaccines made available in Fort Stockton and Pecos County, excluding Focused Care Nursing Home.

Cactus Health Clinic in Fort Stockton has given out 200 first doses of the Moderna vaccine while Iraan General Hospital has given out 114 first doses of the Moderna vaccine and 99 second doses.

That adds up to a total of 3,292 vaccines that have been given in Pecos County - first and second doses combined -- after Wednesday’s clinic on Feb. 10.

Active cases numbers in county stabilize

Since Jan. 21, the COVID -19 active case number in Pecos has maintained below 35 people. The most recent report provided to the Pioneer on Feb. 9 showed that there were 27 active cases in the county.

Over the past week there has been 22 new cases reported (Feb. 2-9) and 24 recoveries from residents who live in Pecos County.

There was an additional death that was reported on Monday, Feb. 8 for a fatality that occurred at a hospital in Lubbock on Feb. 4. The death is the 32nd COVID-19 related fatality in Pecos County since the start of the pandemic.

The individual was a 75-year-old male, who was originally tested at PCMH on Jan. 20.

Since the start of the pandemic there have been 1,025 tests that have come back positive in the county out of 4,271 tests administered.

There are 15 tests pending as of Feb. 9 and four active out-of-county cases.
