Pecos County COVID-19 active case numbers plummet

The number of COVID-19 active cases in Pecos County has seen a sharp decrease in the past three weeks, falling from 205 active cases on Jan. 24 to 34 active cases on Feb. 14.

There have been 184 new COVID-19 cases reported since Jan. 24 and 60 new cases reported since Jan. 31.

That’s compared to 351 recoveries in the since Jan. 24.

COVID-19 active cases in Pecos County have been below 100 people since Feb. 5. The drop below 100 people on Feb. 5 broke a 38-day streak of the county having over 100 active cases – dating back to Dec. 28.

The 34 active cases is the lowest number reported in the past 53 days.

Four additional COVID-19 related deaths were reported since Jan. 24.

An 89-year-old female passed away on Jan. 22 at their residence after testing positive for COVID-19 on Jan. 16.

A 29-year-old female passed away on Jan. 25 in

Webster, Texas after testing positive on Jan. 4.

A 90-year-old passed away on Feb. 3 at Pecos County Memorial Hospital after testing positive on Jan. 26.

An 89-year passed male passed away on Feb. 4 at their residence after testing positive on Jan. 18.

Vaccinations continue slow climb

The increase in the number of people who have received a COVID-19 vaccine – first, second, third shot – has rose by less than by less than 2% for vaccine eligible individuals in the past three week.

The number of one-shot vaccinated Pecos County residents rose from 10,380 people to 10,467 people in the past three weeks. In that same span, second shot recipients rose by 123 people while booster shot recipients rose by 143 people.

Out of the 14,618 vaccine eligible residents in Pecos County, 9,124 people are fully vaccinated (62.42%) and 3,307 people have received a booster shot (22,62%).
