Blue Wave get final prep in before districts
Blue Wave senior swimmer Quaylon Rios qualified for the Andrews Invitational finals on Jan. 7 in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly during the event’s preliminary races.
Rios dropped his time in both events during the finals on Jan. 8, finishing in fourth place in the 100 fly after entering the race as the nine seed.
Unfortunately, the finish did not stand due to disqualification.
The senior was seeded 10th in the 50 free and ended the race in ninth place.
On Friday, sophomore Luke Pules missed qualifying for Saturday’s finals by one place in the 100 free with his best times of the year.
Pules added another all-time best mark in the 50 free by over a second but failed to make the finals on Saturday.
Senior JC Napay qualified for the finals in the 100 breaststroke and clocked his best time in the 50 free.
The next competition for the Blue Wave will be the district meet Jan. 21-22 in Andrews.
