The Fort Stockton Film Society will offer two great holiday movies for the Christmas season at no charge.

Bring the family to laugh at National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on Saturday, Dec. 18, and then come back on Tuesday, Dec. 21, for A Wonderful Life.

There will be no admission fee for either film. Both start at 7:00 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Stockton Community Theater, located at 102 S. Nelson St.

Donations will be accepted and concessions will also be available.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a 1989 American Christmas comedy film, the third installment in National Lampoon magazine’s Vacation film series. Christmas Vacation was written by John Hughes, who based it on “Christmas ’59”, his short story published in National Lampoon. The film stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, and Randy Quaid.

It’s a Wonderful Life is a 1946 American Christmas family fantasy drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra. The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who has given up his personal dreams to help others in his community, and whose suicide attempt on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Oddbody.

It’s a Wonderful Life is considered one of the greatest films of all time. It was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and has been recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the 100 best American films ever made. The movie is a staple on the TV networks at Christmas, but it is a totally different experience to watch it on the big screen in a theater full of people.

All information for the free Christmas screenings may be found on the FSFS web site, FortStocktonFilmSociety.org. Come out and enjoy these free Christmas films in downtown Fort Stockton.
