After conducting a traffic study, the City of Fort Stockton is looking at adding a four-way stop to the intersection of Seventh Street and Everts Street.

The Fort Stockton City Council unanimously approved the intersection at its Sept. 14 meeting, following City Manager Frank Rodriguez’s recommendation, as Everts Street is considered to be a secondary route for residents who live in that area.

Seventh Street is also considered to be one of the only through streets in the area, according to the council, compared to Eighth and Ninth.

Chief of Police Robert Lujan agreed with Rodriguez’s recommendation.

“There is a need there [with] the amount of traffic,” Lujan said. “I think it would be advisable to do that.”

While the council agreed that this intersection should have been built years ago, council member Ruben Falcon said the city needs it now.

“The vehicles are so much bigger,” Falcon said. “If you live there, you really can’t park your vehicle on the side because if you open that door, you might lose it. The citizens that live in the area request it and it impacts everyone else but not as much as them.”

There are no official construction start and end dates available at this time.
