The Fort Stockton varsity football team opened the 2021 season with a scrimmage at El Paso Austin on Aug. 13. “After a slow start the Panthers really played well and we got a very good evaluation of the progress and the areas of improvement needed for the upcoming season,” Panthers head coach Mike Peters said. The Panthers outscored El Paso Austin four scores to three in the opening stanza. Scoring plays by Fort Stockton included a 70-yard run by Isaiah Velasquez, 6-yard run by Shane Velasquez, 8-yard pass from Dominic Aguilar to Zane Hodges, and a 10-yard pass from Dominic Aguilar to Corbin Luna. The Panthers finished the scrimmage with a live quarter. Fort Stockton scored once while holding their opponent to no scores. Aguilar found the endzone on a 67-yard run. "There were bright spots on both sides of the ball and I was very happy with our physical play and effort,” Peters said. Fort Stockton will wrap up their scrimmages this week with the sub-varsity teams traveling to Greenwood on Thursday, Aug. 19 and the varsity making the haul to Del Rio on Friday, Aug. 20.
