COVID-19 active cases have rose in many areas in the state of Texas and across the country in the past few weeks.

That trend does not apply to Pecos County as there currently three active cases in the county as of July 21.

The county has been at five active cases or below since March 25 and has been at zero active cases for a total of 16 days this year. Pecos County tied its longest span with zero active cases for a five-day stretch from July 9 to July 13. That streak of no active cases ended on July 14 when a 40-year-old male tested positive for COVID-19 at Cactus Health Clinic.

On July 15, a 48-year-old female and a 67-year-old male tested positive for COVID-19, pushing the current active case total in the county to three – the highest case number since June 22.

Vaccination rates in the county have flatlined over the last few months, a trend that occurring across the country.

In the past two weeks there has been 70 additional Pecos County residents who have been vaccinated once and 55 people who are now fully vaccinated according to DSHS.

The additions moves the number of people that live in the county who have received one shot to 7,420 and fully vaccinated residents to 6,544. The numbers translate to 50% of residents who are old enough to get the vaccine (12 and older) are fully vaccinated and 57.2% of people have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
