The night sky is a treasured part of life in the Big Bend region – an awe-inspiring backdrop to our lives. Preserving it takes the support of all in our community. In this effort, three organizations with local properties – Village Fresh Greenhouse Grown, the Brewster County Courthouse, and Terlingua Ranch Lodge – are the latest to adopt nighttime lighting that helps keep our skies dark and stars bright.

The Pecos County Senior Citizens Center is inviting members to gather for good food and fellowship at its monthly potluck lunch Friday, November 14, at noon. This month’s meal will feature a Thanksgivingthemed menu, with turkey provided by Oscar Gonzalez.

Scholars’ Dollars Scholarships are available to Pecos County residents taking college courses through the Midland College Williams Regional Technical Training Center in Fort Stockton. The community of Fort Stockton is holding its first annual 5K run and 1K charity event to raise funds for the Neyland Sister Scholarship. This fundraising run, which is being hosted by the Fort Stockton Library, is dedicated to supporting the memorial scholarship established in the names of sisters Emily and Betsy Neyland.
