Richard Reeves Memorial: A Legacy That Continues to Give
What began as a simple act of remembrance has grown into one of Fort Stockton’s most heartfelt traditions of service. Following the passing of Richard Reeves, family and friends came together in 2005 with a shared purpose— to help others facing long-term illness, especially cancer.
In its earliest days, the effort began with a fishing tournament, raising just $300 in its first year. With the dedication of the Reeves family—including Nathan Reeves and Chad Reeves—and the support of community members like Jim Horton, who helped organize and grow the fundraiser, the memorial steadily expanded. What started small soon evolved into the annual cookoff and golf tournament that now bring the community together in both fellowship and purpose.
Nearly two decades later, the impact is remarkable, with over $500,000 given back to local cancer patients and their families. Yet through every year of growth, the mission has remained unchanged—providing financial assistance to those facing cancer and easing the burden during difficult times.
